We would like to thank everyone who came out to the garage sale for all their support.
We would also like to thank all of the volunteers who came to help set up.
Without the generosity of people like the Lapin family, none of the great things that
we have been able to accomplish would be possible!

Schools Raise Funds For Little Shelter
Little Shelter is very proud and honored to be the chosen recipient of fundraising
efforts by several schools on Long Island this year.
Each year, West Side School in Syosset chooses one charity on which to focus their
fundraising efforts. Little Shelter was very honored to be their chosen charity for 2001.
On Wednesday, May 23rd, Little Shelter was invited to attend the Student Council meeting
at West Side School. Little Shelter employees Jodi and Arleen, together with Elmer, one of
the many dogs saved by Little Shelter, attended this meeting and were honored to be
presented with a check for $1500, together with donations of blankets, toys and treats for
the animals at Little Shelter. Little Shelter was then invited to attend an awards
ceremony on Monday, June 18th. Little Shelter was represented by Jodi Record, who
gratefully accepted the award and presented the school with a certificate of appreciation.
Copper Kids is a club at P.S. 144 in Forest Hills. During the school year Copper Kids
collect pennies which are then divided up between their chosen charities. This year the
children raised several thousand dollars. With the $400 allocated to Little Shelter, the
children have chosen to sponsor one of our sanctuary dogs, Molly, for one year. Arleen,
Little Shelter employee, together with Carlyn, one of our many volunteers, attended an
award luncheon at P.S. 144 on Tuesday, June 19, where they gratefully accepted the check,
and presented Copper Kids with a certificate of appreciation. Copper Kids will receive
monthly reports on Molly so they can see how their favorite dog is progressing.
Commack Middle School in Commack also did a fantastic effort raising $700 for Little
Shelter this year.
Little Shelter would like to thank the above schools for their wonderful efforts in
helping save abandoned and abused animals on Long Island.
FaireePoms Pet Sitting Service Raising
Money for Little Shelter
We would like to thank Marion of FaireePoms Pet
Sitting Service for spearheading private fundraisers for Little Shelter.
Marion had a garage sale on June 9th where items were sold for free with a donation to
Little Shelter. Through the generous donations of people visiting her garage sale, $160
were raised for Little Shelter.
Marion (the proud owner of 2 rescued Pomeranians) also has a section on her website
dedicated to raising funds for Little Shelter. 100% of all the proceeds made from selling
cat and dog posters at AllPosters.com
will go to Little Shelter.
Little Shelter is run entirely on donations from generous people like Marion. We would
like to sincerely thank her for taking the initiative to raise much needed funds for our
pets.
Outstanding Service to Dogs Award

On February 11th, Little Shelter was invited to a Blessing of the Animals, along with
other special events for animal lovers on Long Island to participate in.
Little Shelter was awarded a plaque for "Outstanding Service to Canines" at
the Barkminster Dog Service and Show event. We were recognized for our commitment to
increasing community awareness of the large population of homeless dogs out on the streets
and in shelters.
Major, a dog that we helped rescue from a construction site on the Long Island
Expressway, was also honored at the event. Major represents all the dogs out there on the
streets that need someone to speak for them. Thanks to the dedication of a few caring
people, most especially Ro Hawkins (his rescuer and new owner), Tony Peranich (the
construction worker who fed him for almost a year), and Little Shelter, Major will never
be hungry, cold, scared, or alone again.
Little Shelter would like to thank All Saints Church Episcopal Church on Middle Neck
Road in Great Neck, The Rev. Chris Connell, and Cheryl Robinson for coordinating the event
and granting us honors.
