Decisions, decisions. It is so difficult to choose just the right new
furry family member. Your heart tells you to take them all, but your
head says that you cannot. But, which one to choose? While there are
hundreds of dogs and cats available for adoption at Little Shelter, we
would like to spotlight one or two each week to help you narrow your
search and to give some attention to our overlooked residents. We hope
as you look at the adorable little faces and read the biographies
included in "The Cat's Meow" or "Diamond in the Ruff", you will find the
new love of your life. As soon as one of these little guys is adopted,
we will let you know. In the meanwhile, happy looking!

Walter
November 2, 2008
Poor Walter hasn’t had the easiest of times. Well into his senior years, Walter was abandoned at a local town shelter. When our staff saw him lying quietly in his cage, they knew they couldn’t leave him behind and he was brought to the safety of Little Shelter. Once in our care, we found that this little old man loves to give gentle kisses and go for leisurely strolls around the shelter grounds. Although he may be hard of hearing and have failing eyesight, Walter still has plenty of life to live and love to give. Adopting a senior animal is one of the most rewarding and enriching things a person can do. Adopt Walter and you could soon be experiencing those rewards! |

Snowball
November 2, 2008
Winter is just around the corner and it’s time to turn the thermostat up! You can save on your winter heating bills by adopting your very own lap warmer – and we know just the perfect cat! Snowball is a one-size-fits-all, extra-large bundle of love that will gladly help you stay warm, and all for the price of a scratch on the head and a belly-rub. She doesn’t come with any zingy controls that need a rocket scientist to figure them out, just sit on the couch and she’ll automatically do her job. If you want to add an environmentally friendly, cost-effective form of heating, complete with purrs and snuggles, to your home this winter, then come and adopt Snowball.

Francesca
October 2, 2008
Hot dog, weiner dog, or just plain cutie – that’s Francesca. This adorable little Dachshund found herself abandoned in a local town shelter at 10 years of age. Francesca is a very social girl that loves nothing more than to snuggle. Give her a lap to curl up in and she is as happy as can be. Although she is a senior, she is still very peppy and has many years of love left to give. Forget Oscar Mayer, forget Nathan’s – this little ‘hot dog’ is much better for your diet. Come on in to Little Shelter and meet Francesca today! |

Tink
October 2, 2008
If you are looking for a cat that loves to talk and demands attention, then look no further then Tink. This stunning young female is constantly trying to intercept visitors to the kitten rooms by meowing for attention and rubbing against their legs. What visitors will soon realize is that Tink is really saying ‘pick me, pick me’. Unfortunately her pleas have not yet been heard, and Tink is still patiently waiting for a home. Please make her dreams come true and give Tink the loving home she so richly deserves!

Serena Rose
September 10, 2008
They say good things come to those who wait, and Serena Rose has been waiting very patiently. Always eager to greet visitors with her wiggling back end, Serena Rose has become a firm favorite of our staff and volunteers. Serena can often be found catching some rays in one of our outdoor pens, or going for a leisurely drive with staff members when they go to pick up coffee or lunch. Serena does have some special medical needs, but they don’t hold this sweet girl back. She enjoys everything that life has to offer, and is waiting to experience it in a real home. While Serena thrives in the company of humans, she is not too fond of other dogs, but when you have a pooch like her, why would you need another? If you are looking for a devoted companion to share life’s pleasures, look no further than Serena Rose. Come on in and meet this sweet girl today! |

Cameo
September 10, 2008
Cameo was once a wallflower, preferring to find a quiet corner away from the hustle and bustle of daily life in Little Shelter’s cattery. Visitors never saw this beautiful tortoiseshell as she hid herself away, out of the eye of potential adopters. Now Cameo has decided that it’s time to show her true colors. Underneath that shy façade lay a talkative and playful girl. She loves to have a chat to passers-by and enjoys the company of feline friends. Cameo has been at Little Shelter for several years and she has come to the conclusion that enough is enough – Cameo is ready to make the transition into a new home, a new family and a new life. Please consider helping Cameo make that much-needed transition. Come in and meet this sweet and loving girl today!

Trekker
July 2, 2008
A true southern gentleman – that’s our Trekker. Up until now, Trekker’s life has been anything but easy. Rescued from a kill shelter in Virginia, Trekker probably spent his days as a hunting dog. As with many dogs that get old and are no longer on their ‘game’, Trekker was tossed aside. He was no longer any use to the person he so faithfully served, and was given up for adoption. Now, Trekker is ready to live life in the slow-lane as he stops to smell the roses and munch on a cookie or two. Fast movement and hussle and bussle is not his thing. He prefers the subtle approach and will sneak up quietly for a cuddle and place his chin in your lap. Trekker is often overlooked by adopters, simply because he is no longer a young pup. If someone could only look past his age, they would see what a true gem he is. If you are looking for a southern gentleman who likes fine dining and romantic nights snuggled by the fire, then Trekker is the dog for you. Please stop by and meet him! We know you’ll find yourself falling in love! |

Booker
July 2, 2008
Booker is a sweet, velvety black, bundle of love. Booker came to us with his mom and two sisters after their owner passed away. He was very frightened when he first arrived, but with a little love, extra care and compassion he has really started to blossom. Booker demands attention from visitors by giving them a little head-butt as soon as they walk in. That’s his way of saying ‘please take me home’. We hope that soon an adopter will understand his kitty body language and make his wish come true. Could you be the one to grant that wish? Please consider giving Booker his ‘forever’ home. It will be a decision you won’t regret.

Mario
March 2, 2008
It’s hard to believe that a family could own a dog for 11 years, and then leave him in a kill shelter, simply because they are moving. Unfortunately this is a common occurrence, and exactly what happened to Mario. When we saw his skinny little body, and sad pleading eyes staring back at us from his small cage, we knew we couldn’t leave him there. Once back at Little Shelter, we uncovered a spunky little man with loads of personality. Always eager to strike up a conversation, Mario’s years betray his youthful personality. Mario has many years of love left to give his special person. Could you be that person? Please come and meet Mario and you just might find yourself falling in love |

Handsome
March 2, 2008
Handsome is just as his name describes – he is truly a handsome fellow. It’s been several years since Handsome arrived at Little Shelter. He quickly assimilated into our large cat population, and became best friends with many of his feline room-mates. Because he loved having so much feline company, Handsome didn’t always show himself to potential adopters, perhaps thinking that he would miss having so many friends around if he was adopted into a home. Fortunately now, Handsome has also come to love the company of people and we feel that he is finally ready for his ‘forever’ home. Handsome would be best suited to a home with at least one other cat that he could call his new best friend. Please consider giving this good looking guy the forever home he so deserves, and come in to meet him today!

Simba
November 15, 2007
At a weight of 70lbs, it is hard to believe that Simba is still a mere pup and at six months of age, still has some growing left to do. Unfortunately most people coming to Little Shelter looking for a young dog are often looking for something a little on the smaller side, not a pup that is larger then most full-grown dogs. When we rescued Simba from a local town shelter, he was a high energy pup in a very big body. Lacking in manners, Simba probably received little or no training during his formulative puppy months. Despite his lack of decorum, we saw something special in Simba and we know you will too. Our staff and volunteers have been working with him daily and he is quickly learning his basic commands. Give him the home he so deserves and watch him grow into a big, beautiful, well-mannered gentleman. |

Belle
November 15, 2007
Take a walk through Little Shelter’s cattery and chances are you will be accompanied by a little tabby cat sporting her trademark pink collar. She’ll sometimes run ahead of you, seemingly wanting to show you some of her favorite nooks and crannies, and then wait for you to catch up. If you look closely at this little girl, you will see she has a cloudy eye and a missing ear tip, but don’t let this fool you. Belle is not at all self-conscious about her battle scars, and is always eager to strike up a conversation.
With so much personality, we’re not sure why an eager adopter hasn’t snapped up Belle and given her a home to call her own. Could you be the one to change Belle’s luck? If you are considering adding a new feline to your family, then Belle could be your perfect match. Please stop by and meet this social butterfly. You never know, you just might find yourself falling in love!

Butchie
October 24, 2007
Poor Butchie hasn’t had the easiest life. This 8 year old Shepherd mix spent the last 2 years of his life living in a kennel, waiting patiently for his forever home. A couple of volunteers thought that Butchie deserved better, so they brought him to Little Shelter in the hopes that we could find this gentleman the kind of home he deserves. He is a quiet, laid-back guy that deserves to spend the rest of his life in a real home. Please consider giving Butchie that home! It will be a decision you won’t regret.

Taylor
October 24, 2007
It was one of those calls that we don’t like to receive. The lady on the other end of the phone said that she’d dumped her cat at a local shopping center in a crate…and then the phone went dead. Thinking quickly, Arleen hit *69 on her telephone and then dialed the number the lady had called from. It was a pay phone, but luckily someone picked up and told her the name of the shopping center, and that yes indeed, a cat in a carrier had been dumped there. Immediately one of our staff members drove to the location, and what they found inside the carrier was a beautiful male Persian. When Taylor was brought back to Little Shelter and given a medical checkup, we found that he was somewhat neglected. He was under-weight and his fur was a little matted. We also found that he had been declawed. With a little loving and some good nourishment, we know that Taylor will get back to his normal weight. Please consider giving a Taylor a home where he will be treated like a king. We know he’d make a great companion for that someone special..
