What is the matter with Nathan? His first
parents knew that the four-month-old Dachshund was ãjust not
rightä, but they did not have the money to find out what was
wrong. He constantly circles and is almost totally blind.
Little Shelter could not let the cute little guy go untreated,
so we took him in and arranged for some very expensive but
necessary tests. A CSF tap and a CAT scan showed some brain
abnormalities, but more tests must be done to determine future
care. Right now, he resting in a loving foster home and is
recovering from an unexplained fever.
It is apparent to
everyone that Nathan is going to require a great deal of help if
he is to be given a chance at a good life. Little Shelter will
provide lots of TLC as well as all the medical tests and
treatments Nathan needs. But we could really use your help to
defray the cost of this adorable puppyâs medical miracle.

Sunkist - 4/17/07
When Sunkist arrived at
Little Shelter, we noticed that something was not quite right
with her jaw. A visit to our vet revealed that Sunkist had
suffered a broken jaw, probably an old injury from being hit by
a car. We cannot begin to imagine the pain this petite little
girl endured. Just trying to eat would have caused her
excruciating agony. Sunkistâs jaw has healed; but it has healed
incorrectly, and it is awkward for her to eat properly.
To help her live her
life more comfortably, Sunkist may require surgery, surgery that
could prove to be costly. Of course, Little Shelter will
provide all this little girl needs to live a happy normal life.
Wonât you help us? Please donate now to make Sunkistâs medical
miracle come true.

10 Virginia Puppies - 4/1/07
When the Little Shelter Passage
to Freedom team picked up ten puppies rescued from a gassing
shelter in Virginia, it was obvious that the little guys needed
medical help ö pronto. They all had a serious but non-contagious
skin conditions manifested by many open sores. Our vets also
determined that the pups would eventually need eye surgeries for
a variety of reasons. Right now, we are treating the skin
conditions, which require special dips and baths as well as
antibiotics. At the same time, the puppies are receiving strong
vitamins to strengthen their immune systems in preparation for
their eye surgeries.
Despite what
we know will be a long and expensive medical road for these
puppies, we could never turn them away. We welcomed them with
all the love we would give to any dog or cat who comes through
our doors. And we are determined to treat all their illnesses
and prepare them for loving adoptive homes. However, we could
really use your help. Please donate now and together we can
ensure a host of medical miracle for these ten lovable puppies.

Rose - 3/15/07
Our Rose is a real
beauty. She is young and sweet and so appreciative of the love
we give to her. The little girl lived outside her entire life,
her only refuge a flimsy doghouse. Living outside is bad for
anyone, but it was especially horrific for Rose. She contracted
heartworm, a terrible disease that is fatal if left untreated.
Fortunately, Little Shelter rescued her just in time and began
the necessary but very expensive treatments.
We know that one day
Rose will be living in a wonderful forever home. But she cannot
leave us until she tests negative for heartworm. That might not
happen for quite a while. No matter the cost, Little Shelter
will continue to provide the medication until Rose is cured ö
but we really would appreciate your help. Please donate now and

Pit Bull Puppies - 3/2/07
They were a frightful sight. The two
eight-week-old Pit Bull puppies were barely clinging to life.
Fortunately, a kind-hearted soul brought them to a local town
shelter where they received emergency medical care that kept
them alive. Then they were rushed to Little Shelter for
treatment that is more extensive. One of the little guys needed
a badly torn ear surgically removed; the other baby needed
surgery for a huge abscess. Both pups are emaciated and
infested with intestinal parasites.
These poor innocent
creatures are now recovering in a foster home and are receiving
all necessary medical care to restore them to health. But it
will be a long time before they are completely well.
Nevertheless, Little Shelter will continue to provide both
routine and special medical care until that miraculous day when
both puppies are placed into loving, forever homes. We realize
the expenses will be very high, so we are asking for your help.
Please donate now and help Little Shelter make a medical miracle

UPDATE - 4/17/07
We tried all we could,
but we were not able to save Dynamoeâs eyes. The little Terrier
was completely blind when she came to us, so our vets advised
that her eyes should be removed as they were causing her a great
deal of pain. We are happy to report that Dynamoe is healing
well ö and she is pain-free!
Dynamoeâs care has been
costly, and we are very thankful to those of you who have helped
us provide for our senior lady. As you can see, you have helped
her achieve some happiness in her golden years. Please continue
to donate to Dynamoeâs care and continue the miracle.
Dynamoe - 1/30/07
Life is just not fair.
For ten years, Dynamoe gave unconditional love to her forever
family. Then one day, she began to have trouble seeing. Next,
she began to show symptoms of diabetes. Soon, she was
completely blind and insulin dependent ö and her long-time
adoptive family no longer wanted the cute little terrier mix.
They turned her into a municipal shelter ö a certain death
sentence.
Fortunately, Little
Shelter is fair as well as kind and loving. We rescued Dynamoe
from the city shelter and brought her to the safety of our
shelter. Dynamoe is now under expert veterinary care to
regulate her blood sugar with regular insulin injections.
Dynamoe will always need
medical care and insulin injections. As she ages, she will
probably need treatment for other illnesses. But Little Shelter
will never abandon her. Please donât turn your back on Dynamoe.

she needs to live a happy life.

Foster - 1/24/07
She is ten years old ö a senior citizen in
the world of dogs ö but you would never know it. Foster is a
sweet little Chihuahua mix who is happy and playful and loves
other dogs. You would never know she has had some hard times
having been turned into the cityâs animal control facility
probably because of her huge mammary tumor. Once our
veterinarians determine she is able to withstand the procedure,
a veterinary surgeon will remove the grapefruit sized lump.
No matter what, Foster
will require extensive medical care and lots of TLC to make her
medical miracle happen. Wonât you help us provide all she needs

Victor - 12/5/06
It was truly
unbelievable. Crammed inside the plastic container left at
Little Shelterâs front gate were several beautiful but sick
cats. Victor, by far, had the most medical problems. The sweet
grey and white cat has very large ear polyps that are causing
him tremendous pain. Surgery is the only cure, but the
procedure may inadvertently affect his hearing. And recovery
will be a long, slow process.
Everyone at Little
Shelter is hoping that Victor will experience a medical
miracle. We will do our best to make it happen, but we could
really use your help. Please donate now to help Little Shelter

Delia - 11/29/06
Unfortunately, there are
people in this world who are hurtful and cruel, and, sadly,
seven-month-old Delia met one of them. The little black cat was
thrown out of a moving car, and sustained severe injuries to her
jaw and back legs. Right now, she is being treated by one of our
vets, and, thankfully, the prognosis is good. However, it may
be several weeks, or months, before our lovable girl is ready
for a new forever family.
It doesnât matter how
long it takes. Delia will stay at Little Shelter until she is

Rudy - 11/14/06
Rudy is really a gem.
The lovable six-month-old Pit Bull was rescued from a New York
City traditional shelter. There the handsome gent would be on
death row because of a severe leg injury; at Little Shelter, he
is well on his way to a long and happy life. Rudy is now at our
veterinarianâs office where he awaits surgery that will enable
him to have full use of his mangled rear leg.

Shelly - 11/14/06
Shelly was barely three months old when Little Shelter saved her
and her littermates from an individual who was slowly poisoning
the little feline family. Her brothers and sisters were healthy
ö and quickly adopted ö but this little tyke was not. Besides
being the runt of the litter and extremely weak, Shelly also had
to have an eye removed because of a trauma site infection.
Currently recovering and
on a regimen of antibiotics, our brave little gal is slowly
improving. However, it will be a while before Shelly is well
enough to be adopted by the loving family she deserves.

Update - 11/14/06
Magic and
Merlin are doing extremely well, according to their foster
mother Linda Klampfl.
"They each
weigh close to 13 ounces," says Linda proudly. "I am so happy
that Little Shelter rescued them. Leaving them to die in the
city shelter would have haunted me the rest of my life."
Both little
guys are looking at the world through wide-open eyes, and they
are beginning to scamper around like all little puppies do.
Each of them is now up to a whopping 18 CCs of mother's milk
replacement every three hours.
Many, many
thanks to all who have donated to Little Shelter on behalf of
Magic and Merlin. It looks like the medical miracle has begun
for them as several veterinary surgeons have come forward and
have generously donated their fees for the life-saving
operations to repair the cleft palates. However, Magic and
Merlin will need much specialized follow-up medical care.
Please continue to donate as we ensure these two adorable
puppies wonderfully happy lives.
Update - 11/7/06
So far, every day is a
miracle for Magic and Merlin. The little pups now weigh 9 and
10 ounces, respectively, and are being successfully tube-fed
17cc of nutrients every 3 hours. A preliminary consultation
with our veterinarian showed that each little tyke should be
able to have a long and wonderful life ö but, first, multiple
surgeries will be required to repair the severely cleft palates.
In most other shelters,
Magic and Merlin would have no chance at life; they would have
been put to death long ago. But at Little Shelter, we are
giving them everything they need not only to survive but also to
live a great life with a loving adoptive family. However, the
cost of the surgery and medical care they need is astronomical.
Little Shelter is imploring all animal lovers to contribute to
Magicâs and Merlinâs medical miracle. Join with us as we strive
to make a long, happy life a reality for these two adorable
puppies.
Magic &
Merlin -
10/31/06
They are only five days
old, but they already have many obstacles on the road to long
and happy lives. Magic and Merlin, each weighing barely six
ounces, came to Little Shelter with cleft palates. When they
are 8-12 weeks old, the little tykes will require extensive
surgery to repair this life-threatening condition. In the
meantime, they must be tube fed every three hours around the
clock because they cannot eat on their own. There is a very
high risk of aspiration pneumonia, so their condition is guarded
at best.
To realize their medical
miracle, Magic and Merlin need all the help they can get.
Little Shelter will be there for them and provide all they need
to make it happen. But we can really use your help as their
medical care and surgeries will be very expensive. Please
donate now and be part of the miracle.

Barney -
10/17/06
Barneyâs forever home
was anything but loving. Fortunately, on March 24, 1999, Little
Shelter was able to step into the situation and save him from
continued cruelty and possible death. Yet, the nine-year-old
orange and white beauty is not totally unscarred. He has severe
and chronic irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). We have tried
special diets and the most advanced medications ö all to no
avail. But we will never give up on our boy Barney. We will
continue to look for a cure as we continue to search for that
special, caring family who will forever love this wonderful cat.
As you can well imagine,
the seven-year quest for Barneyâs medical miracle has been
extremely expensive. We will always provide for Barney and make

UPDATE -10/31/06
Mattie continues to
thrive in her loving foster home. She eats well and is having a
great time with the dogs, cats, and kids who live with her.
Because of her kidney problems, she is still under the care of
our veterinarian, is still receiving daily fluids, and probably
will for the rest of her life.
Thank you to everyone
who has donated to Mattieâs medical miracle. Little Shelter
appreciates the support, and Mattie does, too! Please continue
to help us as we provide our perky little lady with all she
needs to live a wonderfully happy life.
MATTIE -
9/11/06
Mattie is already a
medical miracle. The pretty poodle came to us from a municipal
shelter in New York City and rapidly developed pneumonia and
kidney failure. Doctors were not very hopeful as her age was
against her; our little lady is 15 years old. But, happily,
after ten days in the hospital, Mattie was able to go to a
foster home where she is thriving and happy. She is still on
daily medications and fluids but she is as perky as a pup! Her
cough is almost gone and she is eating well.
Little Shelter is
working hard to continue Mattieâs Medical Miracle. We are
really looking forward to her being cured and in a loving
forever home. But we can really use your help. Needless to
say, her medical care has been a tremendous expense. Please

PRECIOUS - 9/11/06
Itâs going to be a long, hard road for
Precious. A Little Shelter volunteer found the little cat with
a badly injured back leg. A stray, he was probably bitten by a
wild animal, and the injury went unattended for a long time.
Not surprisingly, a bad infection developed in the bone.
Despite receiving daily antibiotics and pain management
medication, Precious still cannot put weight on the leg. We are
continuing treatment with hope that the outcome will be a good
one, but the veterinarians have not ruled out amputating the
leg.
To achieve his Medical
Miracle, Precious needs Little Shelter, and Little Shelter needs
you. We will continue to provide medical care no matter what
course must be taken. Please donate now to help Little Shelter

MATTIE - 8/29/06
When Mattie was found at Little
Shelterâs gate, we thought she was a longhaired grey cat. But
the big girl was so matted and her snowy white fur was so filthy
that she just appeared to be grey. However, being cleaned-up
and shaved proved to be the least of Mattieâs problems. Her
eyes were infected and her ears were infested with mites. Just
when it seemed all would be well, Mattie developed a hematoma in
one ear. Surgery was done, but an unavoidable crumbled ear
developed.
In addition,
life in the shelter has not been easy for her as Mattie is
reclusive and cannot accept human tenderness. She does not
trust anyone and has been known to lash out at those who love
and care for her. In her life before Little Shelter, she may
have been abused or thrown out in the streets to fend for
herself ö we will never know.
The one bright
spot in Mattieâs life was a cat named Boxer who befriended her.
The two loved to snuggle together, and their love had a positive
affect on Mattie. One day, a family came to adopt Boxer. Try as
we might, we could not persuade the adopters to take Mattie,
too. Now our formerly bright-eyed snowball is depressed and
will not eat.
Our pretty girl
needs a loving home of her own, but she will require much
intensive socialization therapy before she can be placed for
adoption. We all love Mattie and are determined to find the
forever home that is just right for her when the time comes. We
will never give up on our quest, but it is not going to be easy.
And her care and therapy do cost money. We are asking you to

a loving adoptive home.

SUNSHINE -
8/29/06
Fifteen years
of loyalty and companionship did not mean much to Sunshineâs
first forever family. When medical problems began occurring,
the snowy white Bichon mix was brought to a municipal shelter in
New York City. Fortunately, Little Shelter rescued him before
the unthinkable could happen.
But there would
be some more darkness in Sunshineâs life. When he arrived at
Little Shelter, the veterinarian discovered a large rectal
tumor. It has been removed, and our gentle senior citizen is on
the mend. However, he will be with us for a while until he is
completely recovered.
Sunshine is a
sweetheart and still has lots of spunk left in him. He loves
people, both young and old, as well as all other dogs. We know
we can find him a wonderful forever home, but his surgery and
aftercare continue to cost a great deal of money. Please help

Tully is responding well to prescribed medications. We have not

Thank you to all who are supporting Tully

TULLY - 8/23/06
You may be top dog,
but Tully is Little Shelterâs top cat. All the cats in the
cattery just gravitate to him like bees to honey. Kittens
cuddle by his side and other grown cats just love to play and
eat with him. Samuel, especially, thinks of Tully as a soul
mate and spends all his time with his mentor. All the
associates in the cattery often joked that if Tully were to
leave, he would take all 300+ cats with him.
Sadly, Tullyâs health has begun to deteriorate; he has been
having seizures. Hopefully, the medication the special
neurologist prescribed will keep the convulsions under control.
But the doctor recommended that our popular tabby have a brain
MRI.
Little Shelter will continue to do all we can to make Tabbyâs
life a long, happy, and healthy one. We do know that all the
medication and procedures involved will cost a great deal of

Mr. Pickles is still receiving lots of love and care in
spectacular foster home. While his leg is still in a cast, he
is able to walk around now. All of the difficulties he has been

MR. PICKLES - 8/7/06
Mr. Pickles was
in, well, a real pickle. The four-month-old terrier mix came to
Little Shelter from New York City where he, somehow, suffered a
fractured front leg and torn ligaments in a rear leg. Unable to
walk and in great pain, the little guy was undaunted. He never
stopped wagging his tail, and he never refused his caretakers
those luscious warm wet kisses. Mr. Pickles has a cast on his
front leg and has been prescribed ãdoggie bed restä for his rear
leg. We know once he is totally healed, Mr. P will make someone
the best lifetime companion.
Mr. Pickles will need a great deal of rest for the next several

Antibiotics help temporarily, but the problem returns almost as

is very expensive.

miracle will be a reality. Please continue to donate and help

UPDATE - 8/7/06
Just when we thought Buddy was out of the
woods, his blood work showed a lingering infection. So, our
veterinarians decided it was back on antibiotics for our little
doxie. It looks like Buddyâs medical miracle might take a
little longer than we first thought. Please do not give up on
Buddy; Little Shelter hasnât and never will. Continue to donate

BUDDY -

longer care for him. The two-year-old Daschund was diagnosed
with kidney failure and could not handle the treatments. Our vet

curable with antibiotics. After his treatments are complete, we

MISS SHERLOCK - 7/11/06
If you have
ever had a toothache, you can really sympathize with Miss
Sherlock, affectionately known as Shirley. The black and white
little lady suffers from stomatitis, an inflammation of the
entire mouth. To help ease the pain, most of her teeth had to
be removed. But she is a trooper, still eating and purring.
However, management of this disease and the pain it causes is a
great challenge, including a lifetime of veterinary visits,
treatments, and medications for our friendly feline.

Snoopy is a little older ö eight years old
to be exact. However, his age is the least of his problems. He
has a severe head tilt, a terrible upper respiratory infection,
and a number of neurological problems. The good news is that
Little Shelter was able to rescue Snoopy from certain death in a
New York City shelter. After he was with us a few days,
antibiotics and heart medication seemed to be helping his health
improve. However, he recently suffered a relapse and began
having seizures. The little Chihuahua is now under the care of
a neurologist who, hopefully, will determine the cause of his
condition and the treatment that will keep the seizures under
control.
Snoopy will remain in Little Shelter foster
care until his health allows us to find him his forever home.
Please help us provide Snoopy with the best possible medical
care for his condition. Donate now to make his medical miracle
happen.

ELSIE
Elsie is a lovable and affectionate
black and white female cat who is just a delight to be with.
She would love to have a forever family, but she has a problem.
Believe it or not, our little girl is allergic to cat food. In
order to remain healthy, she can only be fed the BARF diet,
which consists of bones and raw food. It is specially made and
can be purchased only at certain stores. A special dry food
must also be added. Elsieâs meals are very costly.
Little Shelter
is doing all we can to make Elsieâs medical miracle happen, but
we need your help. Please donate now so one day Elsie will be
well enough to go home with her own loving family.

Survivor needs another
miracle. In his previous shelter, this green-eyed grey bundle
of love has had one surgery for his bad knees, and it was a
miracle he survived. No one knew he has a potentially fatal
allergy to normal anesthesia. Survivor still limps badly, and
he needs expensive medical treatment to help him live a normal,
happy life. Little Shelter needs your help to make this miracle
happen. Please donate now to help Survivor live the rest of his
days pain-free in a loving home.
