Dog Adoption Application

This form can be filled out to apply for adoption for any of the dogs posted on this website. It can also be used to help an adoption counselor determine which dog (or dogs) would best suit your lifestyle.

If you have any problems with this form, you can simply fill it out, print it up, and sent to us through the mail. Our address is: Little Shelter, 33 Warner Road, Huntington, NY 11743

If you still have problems you can call us at 631-368-8770 or email us at lsar98@aol.com.

Cats can be adopted by coming down to the shelter and filling out an adoption contract in person. If you have any questions about a particular cat, call us at 631-368-8770 and someone from the cattery will help you.

We reserve the right to refuse any adoption to any person for any reason.

SERIOUS INQUIRES ONLY

Here are the rules:

1. Purebreed requests will not be honored over the Internet

What you see on the website is what you get at Little Shelter. We update our pages daily and we do not hide our purebreeds from public view on the world wide web.

If you would like to be put on a waiting list for a specific breed or type of dog, then you must come down to the shelter and do so in person.

2. Applications for "Pit Bulls" will not be accepted

Think about it. We are in the rescue business. We are here to save lives, not to perpetuate stereotypes.

"Rule 2" is similar to "Rule 1". We felt the need to include this rule separate from "Rule 1" because a "pit bull" is not a purebreed in and of itself (it is one of at least 3 recognized lines of purebreed dogs or any combination thereof) and because we were inundated with online requests for "pit bulls", most of which were inappropriate homes.

We are not here to allow a person to exploit a stereotype perpetuated by the mass media for whatever purposes that he or she may seek. We are here to rescue ALL types of dogs and provide them with responsible and loving homes because we are here to protect ALL types of dogs.

3. You must be 21 years old in order to adopt one of our dogs.

Ownership of a dog is not to be taken lightly. Dogs are social animals that require the committed time of a serious owner.

4. The adoption form must be filled out in its entirety.

We receive many online adoption forms everyday and we appreciate people taking the time to fill them out for us. But we can not process your adoption form if all of the required information is not provided to us. This includes both the References field and the Replacement Owners field.

Incomplete forms will not be responded to so please have your references handy when you fill out the form.
